I create the work that I do so that I may better notice the world around me. By taking the time to reflect and consider the minute features of the people and events in my life, I am filled with a sense of appreciation for those things, as well as a greater understanding.

I work primarily with oil paint because it provides me with a greater sense of control and forces me to slow down, largely due to its long drying duration. The oil painting process is labor intensive and can suck you in for hours at a time, yet it almost forces you to step away at a certain point so as to let the paint set and dry. In this way, I am able to reflect and consider the finer details of my world, and how I can translate that onto a canvas.

I am currently exploring the idea of light and how it often can become, both literally and figuratively, our lives’ foundation. Whether light be the sunrise that awakens our day, the fireplace we gather around with our families, or even the figurative light that we are always reaching for, it is at the center of our lives.
